Диалог 15a (Hiring a lawyer)

A: Listen, Bill. I know you’re looking for a lawyer. I want to recommend someone.
B: Sounds interesting. Who are you talking about?
A: My nephew Steve has just graduated from college. He studied law. He was quite good at it.
B: You know, I’d prefer someone more experienced. But… I think I can take him as an intern.
A: Well, it sounds reasonable. Of course, he’d like to get a well-paid job, but you’re right - he is too young.
B: I’m really interested in hiring a good lawyer. Let me know if you have someone in mind.
A: Actually, there is one more person. Her name is Linda. A real professional. She worked for me a few years ago.
B: What does she charge?
A: I don’t know her rate. She has a profile on Linkedin. Let’s have a look.
B: Wow, she’s pretty expensive.I don’t think I can afford it now. That’s out of my price range.
A: I guess you should write to her and try to bargain. I mean, she is quite flexible. If she is interested in the job, she will be ready to negotiate.

Диалог 15b (Purchasing goods)

A: Hello Mr. Newton! My name is Rick Wanders.
B: Nice to meet you, Mr. Wanders. Why did you ask for the appointment? What would you like to talk about?
A: I’d like to make a proposal. I’ve heard you need packaging for your goods. My company is called WrapIt. We’ve been in business since 1980.
B: Tell me more. What are your rates?
A: Here is our price list. We have different types of packaging. What exactly are you looking for?
B: I’m interested in purchasing medium-sized cardboard boxes, like the ones on my desk. Do you have anything like that?
A: Sure! It’s here, on page 4.
B: Hmm, that’s a bit out of my price range. Are the prices negotiable?
A: Actually, it depends on how many boxes you need. There are discounts on large quantities.
B: How many do I have to order to get a 10% discount?
A: Well… Let’s start negotiations at 30,000 items.
B: No problem, I really need lots of them! How about 20% off for 10000 cardboard boxes?
A: That’s a reasonable offer. Well, sounds like a good deal to me. Shall we sign the agreement right now?
B: Why not! I’ll just call my lawyer.
